Forts of Goa - Reis Magos

A relatively undiscovered gem. The fort of Reis Magos is situated in the small village of Reis Magos, Bardez on the banks of the river Mandovi.
Reis Magos means - a Portuguese term for 3 wise men from the Bible.
The village is famous for two things - the fort and the Reis Magos church situated adjacent to it.
It lies exactly on the opposite side of Panaji city.
This fort is more old than the fort of Aguada (this is the oldest fort in Goa) and had its strategical importance. The fort after changing hands to various rulers, served as a prison in its last years till 1993. There after it lied in crumbles and was in a bad state, the fort was restored to its glory in the year 2008 and now stands tall magnificently with all its gait against the Mandovi.

The drainage system was really good for the water to trickle down, so scientific in those days.

Look who's locked in..
The solitary cells as soon as you enter

The main central structure having all records of the old structure and rennovation

The white buildings visible house the tuck shop and Mario Miranda Gallery.

Oh ! Did I tell you guys, we were literally lost in the fort and couldn't find directions to get out, we were going circles round and round all over the fort, with not a soul in sight, after what felt like eons we spotted a couple romancing in a secluded corner secretly ( India you will get such couples in secluded places protecting their identities ) Hubby dear the gentleman and mr goody goody that he is refused to disturb them. After trying for 15 minutes I marched to the couple and disturbed their merriment to their astonishment, however they were kind enough to point the direction .. Adventures I tell you 😜

the steep staircase, one fall and one could die, the sea kissing and frolicking the fort.

The Reis Magos fort which lies besides the fort.

The fort is spectacular and one must visit it. There is a nominal admission fee to enter the structure. The fort also house a small Mario Miranda shop with all its paraphernalia. There is a small tuck shop where one can avail chips and drinks.

For more information check the fort website

Check the beauty of the fort and marvel at its splendours... Those were the days
P.S Please clean your litter after you.

Forts of Goa

When in Goa the beaches surely mesmerise us with the tranquil water and warm sand however Goa also has a long list of forts which truly are magnificient and shout out the Goan history in every way possible. Let me take you along on my journey to explore these lost jewels, some known, some relatively unknow but never the less, each one has its unparallel charm that will surely leave one smitten.

The Aguada fort.

The aguada fort is huge, so huge that one part of the fort houses the magnificient Taj Aguada.
A 17th century portuguese fort on the sinquerim beach (very near to candolim beach).
Aguada meaning water, the fort had a fresh water spring, passing ships used to stop by to fill in on their quota of fresh water. That is how the fort got its name.
The fort houses a big giant lighthouse which is maintained well.
One look at the fort, the lighthouse and the views and you are surely transported to the era gone by, wondering how life would have been - wonderful much.

Have a look through my lens.

The light house, standing tall,,

The red structure in the middle has miniatures of old Goan forts and information about them.

The fort walls so sturdy ,, protecting it for decades and decades ...

Tiny me..

The view

Lost in it all ...

Behind closed doors,,

Now we are in the part of Taj Aguada..
Just staring at the sea for hours ,,, calmness

And finally dipping the feet on the beach of senquerim,,, the Colors of the setting sun ,, the orange hues spreading over and being one in the night sky and the blue waters ❤️

After a hot day in the Goan sun, the water felt so welcoming and cool, it melted down all the tiredness and rejuvenated me instantly. It was so pleasant with a nice breeze billowing as if whispering in my ear and blowing my hair to tease me...

One should definitely visit this fort - beautiful indeed.
There are lot of sellers selling yummy goodies outside the fort, that one can enjoy. Do carry a bottle of water inside the fort, the Goan sun does get you. Don't forget your sun tan, shades and a hat. At the base of the hill there is a little boating place where one can chose a ride of ones choice. All in all a nice place with amazing views. One should explore this place 👍👍👍
